20 Child-Friendly Bike Rides In Yorkshire

Yorkshire is a place full of history and incredible scenery, there’s no better place to take your kids on a bike ride!

 

Leeds

The Aire Valley Towpath - This route past a beautiful canal is perfect for family trips during the summer months! It's perfect for a child on a balance bike with basket or the use of a road bike.

The Wykebeck Way - This cycle route is ideal if you’re wanting a path full of historic houses and stories of the past. Why not try out an electric bike here and save yourself some pedal work.

The Linesway - This nature reserve cycle path is great if you’re a lover of nature! Explore all the countryside has to offer and why not grab yourself the perfect bike before you ride by treating yourself to a new bike.

Yorkshire dales starter hill - This 14-mile long cycle loop is definitely one for experienced cyclists.  It's important to make sure you check your bicycle tires before taking off on a long trip like this.

The Nidderdale Greenway - A cycle past this grade 2 listed viaduct will provide you with a trip full of history. Head out of the 21st century and into a world surrounded by the past.

Dove Valley Trails - This spot is in the National Peak District. It'd take you around 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete since it's 3 miles long.

Calder to Aire Link - This route is 17 miles long so would likely take around 5 hours. It's popular amongst cyclists, hikers and horse riders. This route is perfect for mountain bikes since it's a difficult route.

Whitby to Ravenscar - This 11-mile long route takes you around 2 hours to complete. You'll start at Whitby railway station and along the way, there'll be plenty of opportunities for breaks and refreshments.



York

Cycle the solar system - This 6.4-mile long ride is full of models of the solar system, you can ride along this path and teach your kids about the wonders of the sky at the same time.

Clumber park - This gorgeous park is the ideal place for a biking trip this spring.

York to Naburn - If you’re looking for something more challenging with your family, why not take this route from York to Naburn.

Bay Cycleway - This 80-mile long cycleway was created in 2015 and is perfect for a great day out! Don't forget to check your bicycle tires before heading off and why not take a look at the wide range of kids bikes we have!

Chester Railway Path - This path is on the border between northern wales and York and provides a great day trip away from home!

North Yorkshire

Malham Tarn - You can cycle the beautiful Yorkshire Dales with this route and experience all the gorgeous countryside has to offer.

Newby Hall - This is an easy to ride route, great for beginners and families wanting a calm day out.

Studley Royal Deer Park - This park provides cycling routes, cafes and other great facilities, ideal for a family day out.

Gargrave circular route - This short circuit is perfect if you’re looking for a more serious route to get your family started in cycling.

Kirkby Stephen - A route ideal for disconnecting from the world on a family bike ride.

The Cinder Track - This track is located in Scarborough. There are picnic areas, and cafes and dogs are welcome in the park. This route is around 21 miles long so be ready for a full day of cycling.

Yorkshire Dales Cycle Way - This cycleway loops over a total of 130 miles. You could take the route in sections and complete it over a few days, or aim to complete it in one full day!
