15 Child-Friendly Bike Rides In Edinburgh

Edinburgh is a beautiful part of the UK, family cycling trips are a must, here are 15 great places to visit in Edinburgh by bike

Port Of Leith - This loop is a great way to see the sights with kids since specially designed for children and families so grab your kids bike, balance bikes or adult bike and head off!

Helix Park - This park is situated in Edinburgh and is a popular spot for children and their families, especially in the summer months. Don't forget to take your bike helmet!

 

Loganlea Reservoir Loop from Haymarket - This loop takes you from Edinburgh to the outskirts and then back in again. It’s going to require experienced riders since some of this will be uphill so a lightweight bike, such as a road bike, is great for all of the road riding you'll be doing.

 

 

Duddingston Loch Loop from Edinburgh Waverley - This loop is great if you’re looking for some history. You’ll be taken through some fantastic tunnels and past scenic water. Use this loop for a fantastic cycling adventure.

 

Silverknowes Loop from Bonnington - This loop is suitable for all ages, it’s an easy route and relatively short at only 1 hour 30 approximately. A wide range of kids bikes are great to use on this trip. You could also try out an electric bike here and be eco-friendly, plus you'll save yourself some pedal power.

Innocent Railway Path Loop from Slateford - This loop is mostly paved which makes it great for all skill levels and all ages making it one of the perfect cycle routes.

River almond Bridge Loop from Edinburgh Waverley  - If you’re looking for a loop that will take you to the heart of Edinburgh and back then this is perfect, plus you’ll be able to pass some great water views on the way.

Threipmuir Reservoir Loop from Edinburgh Waverley - If water-based bike rides are your thing, try this loop taking you past Threipmuir Reservoir and then back into the heart of Edinburgh.

 

Fort Loop - This will take you past some great water views, past Blackness Bay and then back to Fort once you’re done. Don't forget to bring your water bottles with you on this trip!


Forth road bridge Loop from Haymarket - This is a difficult trail but since it’s mostly paved, all skill levels should be able to accomplish this! It’s around 5 hours long so making a day of it is a great idea!

The Kelpies Loop (from Edinburgh Gateway) - This route is 56 miles long so should be attempted by experienced riders, although, it’s great for all age ranges. It’ll take around 4 hours to complete and be prepared for a climb in some spots.

 

Gladhouse Reservoir Loop from Haymarket - This 33 mile long route would take you around 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete. It’s well-paved and great for all age ranges.

 

Arthur’s Seat Loop from Brunstane - This is a great loop to start with if you’re a beginner. It’s 20 miles long and would take you just over an hour to complete.

 

Faucheldean Loop from Edinburgh Waverley - This beautiful loop is 54 miles long meaning it’ll take you around 4 hours to complete and finish. You’ll see some fantastic sights on this route.

 

Granton Hub Loop from Craigcrook - This is a super easy route and would take you around 1 hour to complete. It’s 14 miles long and passes some beautiful waterside views.
